Dietitian (Advanced Level Practice)

Duties include but not limited to:
Provides overall coordination for the DSMES program, the curriculum and the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program. Responsible for maintaining American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognition. Develops goals and objectives, monitors the program, evaluates outcomes and accomplishments and redefines priorities throughout the year and at the Annual Meeting. Designs and carries out evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the DSMES program. Monitors and facilitates maintenance of staff qualifications (Continuing Education credits, licensures and registrations) Coordinates the planning and review of program each year. Serves as a liaison between program staff and facility administration. Networks with other health care professionals within the facility and VISN 1 and serves as a contact person for health professionals from outside the VA system. Develops and coordinates all aspects of nutrition education care plans for nutrition clinic patients. Integrates several risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity in developing education care plans. Documents all aspects of nutrition care in the medical record. Evaluates the effects of intervention on individual patient nutritional status and adjusts diet and education as needed. Recommends changes in prescribed diet and diabetes medication to the physician. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates nutrition education on an individual and group basis for patients and families concerning patient's nutritional plan. Provides follow-up education when needed. Responsible for counseling and guiding the patient to an understanding of the nutritional aspects of his care. Modifies instructions with consideration of the patient's level of comprehension, cultural background, health beliefs and attitude, socio-economic needs, readiness to learn, self-management skills and behaviors, physical limitations and other factors that may influence the individual's ability to follow nutritional care plans outside the Medical Center. Participates in related Dietetic professional activities; uses research findings and current knowledge in nutritional sciences. Serves as an active member on interdisciplinary DSMES Program. Performs required diabetes assessments and teaches nutrition components of classes. Communicates pertinent information to health care professionals regarding individual patient nutritional care needs. Works with Clinical Pharmacist in the Insulin Pump Clinic addressing the nutritional needs of those patients on Insulin Pumps and/or on Continuous Glucose Monitors. Plans and participates in the education of health care professionals and trainees regarding nutrition and diabetes specialty. Develops guidelines, protocols, and procedures that are selective to this nutrition specialty. Keeps up to date with VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Diabetes Mellitus. Interprets nutrition research and clinical studies relative to this specialty and identifies and creates new practice opportunities. Develops and revises diet instructional material suitable to patient population in order to meet American Diabetes Association guidelines to satisfy DSMES program recognition standards. Develops and implements short- and long-term goals related to efficient and effective nutrition care for the patient. Participates in investigative studies to improve nutritional care and develop programs to further the goals of the service. Maintains Registered Dietitian (RD) status through attendance at meetings, continued education etc. Participates in local, regional and national programs and workshops on nutrition care; develops and participates in in-service education programs. Participates in the Performance Improvement Program by developing nutritional care criteria and assisting with the Performance Improvement Review Program to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of services provided. Conducts and/or participates in nutrition research studies and communicates findings through reports, abstracts, presentations, and publications. Relieves for other dietitians, as assigned. The individual must have earned a bachelor's degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent and fulfilled each of the following criteria:
(a) Completed a didactic program in dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), formerly known as the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE). (b) Completed an ACEND accredited or approved supervised practice program. Supervised practice programs are post-baccalaureate degree programs that provide supervised practice experiences which meet the eligibility requirements and accreditation standards of ACEND, formally known as CADE. Completion of a coordinated program in dietetics fulfills the requirements of a supervised practice program. Time spent in a dietetic internship or supervised practice program does not qualify as creditable experience. Registration/Certification. All applicants must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). English Language Proficiency. Dietitians must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d). Grade Determinations:
GS-12 Dietitian (Advanced Level Practice) (a) Experience. Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. (b) Credentials. Advanced level practice dietitians must possess a minimum of one advanced practice credential relevant to the area of practice, (e.g. Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Board Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR), Board Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition (CSG), Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO)). (c) Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. An advanced level practice dietitian in nutrition support, renal, oncology, geriatric, or diabetes nutrition specialties oversees the nutrition therapy of the most complex and/or high risk patients. The dietitian provides consultant services to VHA staff, conducts comprehensive nutrition assessment and diagnosis which may include the nutrition focused physical exam. The individual coordinates education programs for facility staff and serves as an education resource, instructing physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, interns, residents, and students on the current research and practice in the specialty area; maintains productivity standards, manages clinical resources, and conducts and/or participates in nutrition research studies and communicates findings through reports, abstracts, presentations, and publications. (d) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
Ability to develop, maintain, and supervise a system of internal reviews and direct quality control and performance improvement studies to assure compliance with various accrediting, regulatory, and agency authorities. Knowledge of the principles of program management and oversight required to develop program goals and objectives, administer and monitor program, evaluate program outcomes/accomplishments, set and redefine priorities, and implement effective solutions in processes/systems as needed. Ability to act as a consultant for staff. Ability to mentor and educate peers and other multidisciplinary team members in complex issues, procedures and practices. Ability to make presentations on topics regarding food, nutrition and health issues. Ability to make high level decisions with a focus on delivering patient care and achieving program outcomes. Ability to contribute to evidence analysis process to affect practice and identify and create new practice opportunities. References:

The position requires intermittent walking and standing for up to 50% of the tour. Carrying normal amounts or written/reference materials is routinely done. Occasionally, duties may require the movement of audio-visual equipment charts and arrangement of classroom areas. Some of the work is sedentary, involving nutritional plans, research and reports. Use of computer keyboard and mouse to access patient data and record patient encounters is a frequent part of the work and happens intermittently during the day.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
