Health Information Tech

Under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager, and within established policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:
Essential Functions: Receive phone calls and processes internal requests for patient information. Sorts mail and other incoming reports and scans all relevant information to the appropriate providers EMR desktop for review and signature. Review incoming reports for duplication and scans in originals discarding duplicate reports. Research patient's who may have been assigned two or more Medical Record Numbers and consolidate them, if necessary, following the system instructions. Pulls and delivers records if requested by providers. Answers phones and assists callers. Purges obsolete records and files in storage, maintains access to archived records on site and at other designated locations. Duplicates and mails records of patients transferring out of the practice and maintains a current list according to established medical records procedures. Answers inquiries and processes requests regarding Attending Physician Statements (APS) and medical records. Opens, sorts and distributes incoming mail to physicians and staff. Prepares hospital and outgoing mail. Protects confidentiality of patient's information. Follows HIPAA guidelines and NH state law with regards to release of information. Ensures confidentiality of employee legal, client, budget and all other company matters. Processes the release of medical information in accordance with regulatory requirements, and ensures federal and state statutes are followed. Photocopies and prints information in the original medical record to include downloading information from the electronic medical record. Calculates fee and creates invoice associated with the release of information requested. Scans and enters Protected Health Information (PHI) into EMR. Maintains the knowledge of The Joint Commission standards regarding medical documentation and HIPAA requirements.
Qualifications Education: High School Diploma.
Experience: One to two years experience in an office setting preferred.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
