Summary:
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Responsible for registration, electronic ordering of tests, receiving, accessioning, handling of specimens, and documentation control for tracking of incoming laboratory specimens from within the Hospital and Out-patient areas through the proper use of facilities, electronic systems, supplies, equipment and other available resources.
Essential Functions
Receives Bloods, body fluids, and other specimens into the laboratory, using the specimen order/requisition (electronic/paper), tracking lists, SMLs and registration for accuracy. Rejecting specimens that arrive without proper identification or with significant quality issues. Verifies correct specimen identification and specimen requirements against test requests. Enters or releases ordered test requests and other demographic and billing information into the proper computer system. Responsible for accurate and complete data entry during the accessioning process. Accurately labels specimens with the appropriate bar-coded labels according to policy. Centrifuges, aliquots or otherwise handles specimens. Preserves specimen integrity, maintains specimen identification and ensures delivery to the appropriate section of the laboratory for testing. Receives and documents all specimens sent to the laboratory from the clinical areas i.e. emergency room via the pneumatic tube system, maintaining the expected turnaround times for all STAT specimens. Determines the order in which specimen-processing tasks are to be performed. Ensures proper handling of prioritized specimens. Is familiar with look-ups for sample requirements for special testing and send-outs to ensure specimen integrity. Documents problems regarding patient or client information. Resolves problems by calling Phlebotomist, Client or patient floor when possible. Forwards unresolved problems to the appropriate section within the Laboratory. Informs the Supervisor or Team Leader of significant problems. Registers and admits patient information into the proper system using correct billing procedures when Registrar is unavailable or in need of assistance. Checks entries of co-workers via Specimen Master Logs (SMLs) periodically throughout the shift for errors. Makes corrections when discrepancies are found. Remains familiar with Reception duties for the Out-Patient Laboratory. Assists the Stock Clerk with inventory maintenance and client supplies. Maintains a safe, clean, orderly work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience:A minimum of one year experience in a laboratory related environment, and/or one year in an office setting with typing and/or computer skills required.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
