Summary:
To administer nursing care to patients before, during, and after routine endoscopic procedures.
This includes assessing the patient, preparing the patient for the procedure, and monitoring the patient during the procedure.
This role will also serve as a patient advocate, providing support and information to family members.
Carry out functions in a manner consistent with Performance Improvement and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Director and in accordance with standards of care and practice established by the Nursing Organization and, the specific department; the rules, regulations and/or standards established by the State Board of Nursing and appropriate specialty organizations relevant to the patient population under care, the incumbent performs the following functions:
Quality of Care/Performance Improvement:
Demonstrates quality nursing care and a commitment to the quality care processes as evidenced by:

Assesses patients' physical and psychosocial status based on interview, examination and review of clinical data.
2.
Prepare outpatients for endoscopic procedures, including assessments of the patient's needs, allergies, and current medications and procedure instructions 3.
Assist during the care of acute and/or inpatient emergent cases 4.
Administer medications under the direction of anesthesia 5.
Monitor patient vital signs during the procedure 6.
Assists the Gastroenterologist and or Pulmonologists during the procedure 7.
Provide patient and family education on endoscopic procedures and post-procedure care 8.
Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and procedure 9.
Uses the nursing process as a basis for developing, implementing and evaluating nursing interventions.

Provides patient-centered care with sensitivity and respects for the diversity of human experience.
11.
Performs technical skills as needed by specific clinical unit safely and competently.
12.
Coordinates and implements the medical diagnostic and therapeutic orders as directed.
13.
Anticipates and manages complications of disease progression and invasive procedures.
14.
Documents plan of care, assessments and interventions and patient outcomes in an electronic medical record thoroughly, accurately, and according to CMC Professional Nursing Practice Standards and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
15.
Reports status, including response to care, and changes in status as appropriate.
16.
Ensures calm, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients and their families, serving as an advocate when appropriate.
17.
Adheres to all safety, organizational and ethical standards according to ANA Code of Ethics.
18.
Implements elements of core measures in conjunction with Performance Improvement.
19.
Identifies current trends which could impact patient outcomes.
20.
Identifies system resources effectively and allocates them appropriately at the point of care delivery.

Demonstrates clinical excellence and proficiency in practice in one or more of the following:
Researches information relative to a new device or medical procedure, that is relevant to the units' population, and develops reference packet available for staff on unit and encourages colleagues to seek his/her guidance in managing new device or medical procedure.
Manages a specific complex clinical procedure common to patients in area of practice, and encourages colleagues to seek her/his guidance in managing the specific procedure/technique throughout the year.
Serves as a primary preceptor throughout the year, providing guidance and support during orientation of new staff members or for student nurses in their senior practicum.
Takes on role of Charge Nurse throughout the year, providing guidance and support to colleagues and ancillary staff members.
Achieves and maintains certification in specialty area of practice 22.

Ability to wear protective clothing such as gown, mask, glove, head cover, lead apron, safety glasses and/or safety shoes.

Ability to perform job alone following standard practices and any of several procedures as defined by the American Nurses Association's Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and the NH State Board of Nursing, but refer questionable cases when they arise out of standard practice.

Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Work schedule may include four 8 hour shifts hours per day with an on call rotation per schedule based on department needs.
Personnel may be expected to cover for patient care needs by rotating or working extra shifts.
Qualifications:
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing preferred.
BSN strongly preferred.
Specialty certification strongly preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of one year of nursing experience and/or meets the requirements of Entry RN.
Previous experience in endoscopy nursing preferred Licensure/Certification:
Current registration in the State of NH as a Registered Nurse.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
ACLS required or obtained within one year Job Types:
