PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Monitors reimbursement by all payors through maintenance and utilization of contract monitoring software. Assists in development of Medicare cost report and annual Medicare audit.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Director, Financial Development and within established Elliot Hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:
Essential Functions:
Monitors payor reimbursement against contracted terms using hospital information system, Surepay contract management system and through interaction with patient accounting staff. Follows discrepancies through process of resolution, and creates reports to show discrepancies, activities, and resolution.
Responsible for keeping Surepay contract monitoring system updated and accurate so it is available for payor reimbursement analysis. Includes ensuring daily payments uploaded, supplementary tables kept current, updating contract terms, and periodic testing of system to ensure reliability.
Coordinates the preparation of the Medicare cost report through data gathering, analysis, and input.
Monitors development of monthly logs and files as required by agreements with payors.
Assists Director in coordination of Medicare and Medicaid audits. Provides auditors with workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation for audit related inquiries.
Investigates and reports on current reimbursement developments on the state and federal level
Prepares computation of third party contractual allowances and settlements for financial statement presentation. Reviews and evaluates actual and budget variances as they relate to Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, Healthsource and all other third party payors.
Participates in preparation of contractual allowance section of operating budgets for Elliot Hospital and other entities with patient revenues.
Provides reimbursement and payor analysis assistance to Director of Financial Development in areas of new or existing program financial analysis.
Supports development of information requested by executive and departmental managers.
Secondary Functions:
Assists Director, Financial Development with special projects.
Participates in appropriate role in disasters, fire drills, fires and other emergency situations.
Exercises care in the use and operation of Elliot Hospital equipment and reference materials. Performs routine cleaning to ensures continuing functioning of equipment. Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner.
Performs similar or related duties as assigned or directed.

Ability to operate microcomputer with appropriate spreadsheet and related software.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors Degree required
Experience:
Four to five years accounting experience. Health care reimbursement experience preferred.
